House Ethics Committee Investigates Rep. Jimmy Gomez for Alleged Misconduct

2 hours ago 0

The House Ethics Committee has opened an investigation into Rep. Jimmy Gomez, a representative from California, concerning allegations of sexual misconduct. The committee, which serves as the oversight body within the House of Representatives, announced the inquiry on Monday. It focuses on alleged inappropriate sexual contact with a House staff member.

This investigation is part of a broader issue involving allegations of misconduct or harassment by lawmakers on Capitol Hill. These incidents have prompted Congress to reconsider the rules governing lawmakers’ interactions.

Rep. Gomez, who joined Congress in 2017, is a key figure in the Congressional Dads Caucus, serving as its founder and chair. The caucus aims to ensure fathers play active roles both at home and within Congress. Gomez is married and has one child.

Fox News Digital sought a statement from Gomez’s spokesperson, but additional details from the Ethics Committee remain unavailable. The committee typically maintains confidentiality until it completes investigations. It emphasized that allegations are not evidence of misconduct.

In a related case, Rep. Chuck Edwards, a Republican from North Carolina, faced accusations of sexual harassment this summer. The Ethics Committee recommended censure in response to these claims against him, noting that this action lacks significant consequences. Despite denying wrongdoing, backlash led Edwards to withdraw from his re-election campaign.

Earlier this year, the New York Post reported that Gomez was seen kissing a significantly younger congressional aide in 2023. Gomez acknowledged to CNN in June his past mistakes outside of marriage, which have caused pain to his family. He clarified that his actions were consensual and did not breach laws or House rules but recognized their impact.
