Scottie Scheffler showcased his golfing prowess at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, securing a commanding victory by eight strokes over Si Woo Kim. This win in Memphis, Tennessee, was especially significant for Scheffler, who had faced five runner-up finishes in the past season.
Speaking with CBS Sports’ Amanda Balionis, Scheffler revealed his relief and satisfaction. He noted, “I’ve had some close calls this year. I feel like I’m playing pretty well, but small things weren’t going my way.” Despite a stroke of bad luck when his shot hit a sprinkler system and rolled into the water, he maintained his focus and determination.
He explained, “Going into today, I just wanted to do my best and execute. I managed to stay focused and bounce back, allowing me to relax.” Prior to this event, Scheffler’s last victory was at the season-opening American Express Golf Tournament in January. He had finished second in several tournaments, including the 3M Open and The Masters.
Balionis pointed out that statistically, this has been Scheffler’s best season. When asked about his pride, he responded, “I think I’ve been really consistent. Outside of the Amex, I felt I didn’t perform as well early in the year as possible. Battling my swing was part of it. Consistency has been key for me.”
Scheffler’s triumph at the St. Jude Championship marks his second win of the season and his 21st career PGA Tour win, making him the third-youngest golfer to reach this milestone, after Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. This victory also positions him atop the FedEx Cup standings ahead of Matt Fitzpatrick and Cameron Young.
Scheffler appears to have regained form, with another opportunity to prove himself at the BMW Championship at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, next week.
