A video of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has gained significant attention online due to his awkward dance moves at the Black Entrepreneur State Fair. Users on social media platform X quickly spread the clip, with many describing the performance as ‘cringe-worthy.’
The video, originally shared on TikTok, features Mayor Frey dancing to hip-hop music while wearing sunglasses. He interacted with an emcee during the event, sparking a wave of mockery from various commentators.
Conservative commentator Benny Johnson questioned Frey’s actions, recalling a previous incident where the mayor pretended to enjoy a particular type of food. Johnson stated, ‘Why are they always like this? This is almost worse than when he pretended the Somali food he was choking down was delicious. He’s a walking humiliation ritual.’
Other users echoed similar sentiments about Frey’s dance. One user simply stated, ‘What an embarrassment.’
Another commentator, Emily Jashinsky, made a humorous remark suggesting preferences regarding city policies, saying, ‘I’d honestly prefer that he defund the police.’
An Outkick writer, Ian Miller, criticized the mayor and other Democratic figures for attempted connections with the public through performances. Miller remarked, ‘One of the worst parts of Democrats becoming the party of theater kids is that they were clearly the worst and least talented theater kids, which is why they went into politics.’
Social media users also criticized Frey by focusing on city issues. Mario Nawfal, an X host, pointed at fraud issues in the city, remarking, ‘Mayor Frey is out here dancing like his state and city are not in complete disarray and plagued with rampant fraud at every level.’
In related criticism, Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed faced backlash after a campaign video parodying a children’s series resurfaced. The video, designed to explain voting by mail using a familiar children’s show format, was mocked online.
