Alfonso, who’s connected to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy as his son-in-law and to Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy, secured the Republican nomination for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District. He is backed by former President Donald Trump and aims to reclaim the seat his father-in-law held from 2011 to 2019.
“It is my Great Honor to endorse MAGA Warrior, Michael Alfonso, a young ‘STAR’ who is running to represent the incredible people of Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District,” Trump announced on Truth Social before Election Day.
Trump outlined Alfonso’s plans, including boosting the economy, cutting taxes, supporting local farmers, and maintaining border security. Melania Trump, Michael Alfonso, President Trump, and Evita Duffy-Alfonso were all spotted together in a campaign image.
Currently, the seat is occupied by Republican Rep. Tom Tiffany, who won the Republican nomination for Wisconsin governor. Since Duffy’s 2020 resignation for family reasons, Tiffany has represented the district. The area has been Republican-dominated for 15 years, with Trump securing 60% of the vote there in the 2024 election.
Alfonso is set to compete against Democrat Fred Clark in November. Clark, a former state assemblyman, envisions a “new rural majority” in northern Wisconsin. He emphasizes a coalition beyond traditional political divides and strives for effective representation in Congress.
Clark’s campaign insists on engaging with community issues over partisan labels. Meanwhile, Alfonso continues to champion conservative efforts to address voter priorities in the district’s political landscape.
