Angel Reese Shines in Record-Breaking Season with Atlanta Dream

2 hours ago 0

Angel Reese, the Atlanta Dream’s standout forward, is quietly having one of her best basketball seasons amid the mainstream media’s focus on other players. The Dream, boasting a 20-12 record, secured a decisive victory against the Toronto Tempo on Monday night. Reese contributed significantly with 20 points and 14 rebounds, achieving a 50% shooting rate from the field. This performance marked her 22nd double-double of the 2026 WNBA season, setting a new franchise record for the Dream in double-doubles within a single season.

The Dream celebrated Reese’s achievement with a post on X, stating, “She IS the Double-Diva. She IS at the top of her game. And she IS etched into Atlanta Dream history with the most double-doubles in a single season.”

With 12 regular-season games left, Reese has ample opportunity to extend her record. She has secured double-doubles in five of her last six games, positioning her to potentially surpass Alyssa Thomas’ WNBA record for double-doubles in a season.

Currently, Reese averages 15.8 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Her 11.9 rebounds per game are the highest in the WNBA. If she maintains this lead through the regular season, Reese will claim her third consecutive rebounds title.

Reese, however, prioritizes her championship aspirations over individual accolades. Since her trade from the Chicago Sky to Atlanta in April, Reese has expressed her singular goal is winning a championship. The Dream, poised for a playoff appearance barring any unexpected setbacks, presents Reese with her first opportunity to experience WNBA playoff basketball since being drafted seventh overall in 2024.

Atlanta Dream’s schedule includes a game against the Connecticut Sun on Thursday, followed by a home match against the Indiana Fever on Sunday.
