A former member of Thailand’s House of Representatives, Chalong Reawraeng, has allegedly confessed to shooting a local official in Nonthaburi province, just outside Bangkok. The incident occurred during a phone call with Anchalee Paireerak, a well-known media commentator, shortly before Chalong was taken into custody by police.
Chalong is accused of shooting Thongchai Yenprasert, an ex-police officer now serving in Nonthaburi, along with his driver. Provincial police chief Major General Dejrapee Kongdee confirmed the arrest of the former lawmaker.
This incident follows a recent tragedy in the same province, where a teenager killed nine people, including his grandparents, and started a shooting spree at a school. The shocking event has renewed discussions about gun control in Thailand.
During a YouTube livestream, Paireerak answered a call that appeared to shock her. The caller reportedly confessed to the shooting, prompting Paireerak to advise him, “You need to wait there for the cops. Don’t go anywhere.” The occurrence was allegedly caught on camera outside a government building in Nonthaburi. However, Newsweek hasn’t been able to verify the footage independently.
