Former Democratic National Committee (DNC) fundraiser Lindy Li raised concerns about the financial stability of the Democratic Party during an appearance on “My View with Lara Trump.” Li highlighted the party’s significant debt, linking it to Vice President Kamala Harris’s extensive campaign spending and a growing shift towards progressive socialism. According to Li, these factors have driven major contributors away, hesitant to back the party in its current state.
Li argued that political donations act as a “business proposition” for many contributors. If donors believe their money has been mishandled, they are less likely to offer continued support. Li noted that Harris’s previous campaign and the pro-Harris Future Forward super PAC spent approximately $2.5 billion, with filings showing around $1.18 billion spent by Harris’s principal campaign committee alone during the 2023-24 election cycle.
In her critique, Li also voiced dissatisfaction with the party’s post-election processes. She claimed that the Democratic Party failed to hold itself accountable, pointing to an unclear post-election analysis. She bluntly stated, “They couldn’t even stand behind it. They didn’t even mention the fact that Kamala Harris is a terrible candidate.”
“Kamala Harris is living in fantasyland… [thinking] that big donors would bet on her again,” Li commented. “She should just go away because the American people do not want her agenda.”
Li connected the fundraising issues to a wider dissatisfaction over the Democratic Party’s embrace of socialist policies. She explained, “This is why donors like me left the party in droves. And this is why they are so… broke. They literally had to put up their own headquarters… as collateral. They can’t even get a text back from donors.”
Additionally, Li criticized party leaders for bending to pressure from the party’s left wing. She argued that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s “big tent party” rhetoric is a strategic move to prevent challenges from figures like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. “He’s trying to race her to the bottom. It’s just ridiculous,” she added. Li claimed that such tactics have already been rejected by the American public in the 2024 elections.
