Senator Sanders Criticizes Fetterman Over Endorsement Controversy

Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont criticized Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania on Sunday, labeling him as “way out of touch” with American voters. This comment came after Fetterman accused Sanders of not expressing regret for endorsing Graham Platner, a former Maine Senate nominee embroiled in scandals.

Sanders responded by highlighting Fetterman’s approval ratings among Pennsylvania Democrats. Speaking on “Meet the Press,” Sanders stated, “Last time I checked, Fetterman represented the views of about 19% of Democrats in Pennsylvania.” He argued that Fetterman was disconnected from voters on key issues like Israel.

Sanders seemed to reference a July Quinnipiac University survey. This survey indicated that 19% of Pennsylvania Democrats approved of Fetterman’s job performance, while 69% disapproved. Despite this, 77% of Republicans expressed approval, and Fetterman’s overall approval among registered voters stood at 48%.

“You were the carnival barker for an accused rapist,” Fetterman said, criticizing Sanders for supporting Platner. Fetterman accused Sanders of blowing up the Maine race and demanded accountability.

In a series of intense remarks, Fetterman further accused Sanders of supporting controversial candidates, mentioning Platner’s accusations and allegations involving Nazi sympathies.

The exchange between the senators follows ongoing tensions over the Democratic Party’s approach to Israel and Sanders’ endorsement of progressive candidates.

During “Meet the Press,” Kristen Welker played a clip of Fetterman’s accusations against Sanders regarding Platner. Fetterman expressed frustration with Sanders for endorsing a controversial candidate like Platner.

Sanders later addressed the situation, acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations against Platner. He stated, “Platner ran a strong campaign, but serious allegations led to his withdrawal. It’s easy to be a Monday morning quarterback.”
