Voting concludes Thursday in Tennessee to determine the Republican and Democratic candidates for the upcoming gubernatorial election in November. In the typically Republican Volunteer State, Sen. Marsha Blackburn and Rep. John Rose are contenders for the Republican nomination.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn has been seen as the favorite for most of the race. However, recent polling suggests her race against Rep. John Rose, a four-term congressman whose district includes parts of Nashville and much of Middle Tennessee, might be more competitive than expected.
Former President Trump has chosen not to participate in this race, telling Tennessee’s congressional delegation in June that he would refrain from endorsing any candidate in the primary.
On the Democratic side, the candidates are Memphis City Council member Jerri Green, museum president Carnita Atwater, pastor Kevin Lee McCants, businessman Tim Cyr, and musician Adam Kurtz. Polls are scheduled to close at 8 p.m. EDT.
