Woman Finds Civil War-Era Relic in Thrifted Frame

Once home, Ramsdell replaced the eerie photo with her print. Upon removing the backing, she discovered another picture hidden behind it. It turned out to be a lithograph of George Washington.

An avid collector, Ramsdell discussed her find with friends and researched online. She learned it was an original 1864 Civil War-era lithograph, potentially worth over $500, a remarkable increase from her $15 investment.

Ramsdell speculates about why it was hidden. She suggests it might have been concealed intentionally, perhaps through a change in ownership or donation without knowledge of what lay beneath.

Despite the significant potential value, Ramsdell isn’t rushing to sell the lithograph. She plans to hold onto it, expecting it might appreciate over time unless an appealing offer arises.

Meanwhile, she contacted a local historical society to discover more about the lithograph. Ramsdell hopes her experience inspires others to explore secondhand shopping opportunities.
