David Jonsson Takes on Iconic Role

Director Ryan Coogler unveiled exciting news at Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con panel: David Jonsson will become the new Black Panther. Jonsson will portray Prince T’Challa II, the son of T’Challa, in ‘Black Panther 3,’ set to release on December 15, 2028. Coogler will return to direct the third movie in the celebrated series.

Jonsson expressed his gratitude to the Marvel family upon hearing the announcement. He shared his heartfelt appreciation, saying, “Thank you to this amazing family that I have the honor and the privilege and the blessing to join.” With the enthusiasm from the audience, Jonsson opted to let the film speak for itself, avoiding further comments.

Legacy and Transition

Chadwick Boseman originally played T’Challa in the first Black Panther film. Boseman’s passing due to colon cancer in 2020 deeply affected fans and the film community. Following his death, Letitia Wright assumed a significant role as T’Challa’s sister, Shuri, in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’

Jonsson’s casting signifies a genuine passing of the torch to a new generation. His character, Prince T’Challa II, introduced in the second installment, will officially transition to the forefront in ‘Black Panther 3.’ This film will explore his coming of age and leadership journey.

David Jonsson is acclaimed for his performances in notable productions. He gained recognition for roles in Stephen King’s ‘The Long Walk,’ ‘Alien: Romulus,’ and portrayed Gus Sackey in the first two seasons of ‘Industry.’
