Hasan Piker Endorses Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for 2028 Presidential Run

Far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker expressed his support for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as his preferred candidate for the 2028 presidential election. During an interview with Mehdi Hasan, Piker emphasized Ocasio-Cortez’s potential to energize the Democratic Party’s base and attract infrequent voters.

When asked to choose between Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Ro Khanna, Piker quickly opted for the New York congresswoman, stating, “AOC. It’s not even a question.” The interview involved selecting from a list of prominent Democrats, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom, former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Vice President Kamala Harris, Sen. Jon Ossoff, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, Sen. Chris Van Hollen, and Rep. Ro Khanna.

Piker highlighted Ocasio-Cortez’s appeal, despite acknowledging potential challenges her race and gender might present. He dismissed the notion that these factors would impede an electoral victory, emphasizing her ability to clear such hurdles through strong campaigning.

“These are hurdles, yes,” Piker stated, “but these are hurdles that one can clear.” He elaborated on how Ocasio-Cortez could build a unique coalition and activate voters who typically don’t participate.

“As long as you have moral conviction and can excite the base,” Piker said, “you can create a unique coalition and activate low-propensity voters, which I think AOC has the capacity to do.” He compared her positively to Sen. Bernie Sanders, whose campaign promoted democratic socialism.

Piker also critiqued aspects of Ocasio-Cortez’s political approach. While praising her social media efficacy and progressive stances, he noted she might focus excessively on appearances, which could dilute her populist appeal.

No comment has been received from Ocasio-Cortez regarding Piker’s endorsement. Although she hasn’t announced a 2028 campaign, she has increased national travel and endorsements, as evidenced by her support for Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.
