Man Fleeing Immigration Agents in Florida Struck and Killed by Truck

A 28-year-old Mexican citizen died in St. Augustine, Florida, on Tuesday. He was struck by a tractor-trailer while fleeing federal immigration authorities. The incident occurred after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents stopped a vehicle with four occupants at a gas station around 6:45 a.m.

All four individuals fled on foot. The man attempted to cross a busy road and was hit by a semitruck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the truck driver, aged 64, stopped and tried to help the man. FHP is currently investigating the fatality.

The pedestrian was struck by the tractor-trailer in the right lane and sustained fatal injuries on scene.

This fatality marks the third incident in a week involving individuals encountering ICE agents. In Texas, another man died after being shot when he allegedly attempted to ram his vehicle into federal agents. In Maine, a separate case involved a man in a vehicle being shot and killed under federal investigation.

Following the Tuesday incident, ICE agents received new instructions. The Trump administration directed them to temporarily halt most vehicle stops across the country, signaling a significant policy change.
