Continued Russian Missile and Drone Strikes on Kyiv

4 weeks ago 0

Russia launched a series of missile and drone attacks targeting Kyiv overnight into Monday, resulting in the death of at least seven people, as reported by authorities. This assault occurred merely hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had issued a warning about an impending large-scale attack.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration, confirmed that 24 individuals were injured during the strike. The attack involved waves of ballistic and cruise missiles, along with drones, leading to explosions resonating throughout the city. Civilians sought refuge in metro stations as the assault continued into the early hours of Monday morning.

Zelenskyy emphasized the urgency of receiving additional air defense support from Western allies. He advocated for more Patriot missile supplies to counter Russia’s extended military actions over the past four years. He expressed that without replenishing defense systems, the conflict persists to Russia’s advantage.

A residential building in the Podilskyi district partially collapsed, while in Darnytsia district, several multistory buildings sustained damage. There were people believed to be trapped under the debris. Tkachenko highlighted that these locations were residential buildings where people lived their everyday lives.

This attack follows a recent aggressive Russian assault that resulted in the deaths of at least 31 people in Kyiv. The consecutive strikes underscore rising tensions and the ongoing need for strengthened defenses in Ukraine.
