Cooper Ingle’s Costly Mistake in Guardians vs. Rangers Game

Cleveland Guardians left fielder Cooper Ingle experienced a notable lapse during a game against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night. With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, a critical moment occurred.

At this point, the Rangers had a runner on second base and one out. Texas batter Alejandro Osuna hit a fly ball to left field, which Ingle caught for the inning’s second out. However, Ingle mistakenly believed it was the third out, leading to an error that changed the game.

Ingle threw the ball into the stands at Progressive Field, not realizing play was still active. This allowed Rangers runner Ezequiel Duran to advance home, giving Texas the go-ahead run. The Rangers eventually secured a 4-2 victory.

Ingle’s performance at the plate also fell short, as he went 0-for-4, striking out three times. He had only recently made his major league debut the previous Friday against the Seattle Mariners. Despite this setback, Ingle was ranked highly, being No. 99 on MLB’s top 100 prospects list and No. 65 on Baseball Prospectus’ list. He was the No. 3 prospect for the Guardians.

Ingle addressed the error, expressing regret. “Obviously you feel terrible,” he shared with reporters, according to MLB.com. “It’s a pretty embarrassing feeling.” Following the game, both Cleveland and Texas held a record of 44 wins and 42 losses for the season.
