President Donald Trump kicked off the Great American State Fair with a speech on the National Mall, celebrating America’s accomplishments under his leadership. He compared his political movement to the American Revolution, stating, “Just like those patriots of 1776, over the past 17 months, we have taken power back from the far-off political class.” Trump emphasized a return to sovereignty, liberty, and prosperity for the U.S.
The ceremony began with Lee Greenwood performing “God Bless the U.S.A.” alongside military flyovers featuring B-2 bombers and F-35 jets. Attendees heard from Trump Cabinet members and the U.S. Marine Band added to the event’s atmosphere.
Trump proudly stated, “America is back,” asserting the nation’s global standing and respect. He highlighted improvements in Washington, D.C., mentioning that homeless encampments and graffiti had been removed, and over 50 monuments and memorials restored. He cited repairs at Union Station, Meridian Hill Park, Lafayette Square, and the Reflecting Pool. “The vandals got to it,” he said about the Reflecting Pool, “but they’ve largely been caught and prosecuted.”
Trump outlined future projects for the anniversary, including a new White House ballroom, a triumphal arc near Arlington Cemetery, the National Garden of American Heroes in West Potomac Park, and a “Spirit of ’76” exhibition at Freedom Plaza. Describing the 250th anniversary as a launchpad for a new “golden age,” he said, “This anniversary is a time to be proud of our past and to expand our ambitions.” He added, “With all of that being said, the best is yet to come.”
Joined by House Speaker Mike Johnson and other officials, Trump called the opening event “a very special night.” He remarked, “It’s my honor to officially kick off the celebration with the Great American State Fair,” predicting an “unbelievable” experience.
The fair, running until July 10, will display attractions from all 50 states and six U.S. territories. Features include military flyovers, patriotic music, demonstrations, exhibitions, a FIFA fan zone, and a rodeo. Trump previewed a massive Fourth of July celebration on the National Mall, claiming it would feature “the largest fireworks display in world history.” Additional events include the Patriot Games and a Freedom 250 Grand Prix race.
Trump concluded by honoring generations of Americans who built and defended the nation. He invoked figures from the American Revolution, the settling of the West, and the space race. “This is our heritage,” he stated, “This is the destiny of America to be the greatest, most incredible country ever to grace the earth.” He closed with, “Happy birthday, America.”
