The trial footage shows the initial moments of the standoff that occurred on May 30, 2023. Hammond was inside a Harrisburg home, holding the girl while police attempted to resolve the situation. The girl’s mother, Michele Peters, recorded Hammond as he held her distressed daughter. Police officers outside demanded Hammond’s surrender.

Throughout the recording, Hammond expressed paranoid beliefs, telling the mother that police were ‘trying to kill’ him and urging her to ‘trust in God.’ He repeatedly stated his affection for people and children.
