President Donald Trump is sharing new insights into the United States’ recent negotiations with Iran, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at ending the ongoing conflict. In a conversation with Marc Caputo from Axios, Trump discussed the 14-point agreement between the countries and disputed claims that it does not equate to an unconditional surrender by Iran.
Trump asserted, “Well, it really probably is unconditional surrender,” when asked by Caputo for clarification. He elaborated on the diminished state of Iran’s military capabilities, emphasizing that their military strength is now significantly reduced, citing the destruction of their naval and air forces.
With Iran’s military operations significantly weakened, Trump highlighted targeted operations that eliminated key Iranian leaders. He noted, “They’re gone. They’re all gone.” Trump mentioned efforts to dismantle Iran’s military infrastructure over a two-month period, with a focus on naval capacity, boasting of covert operations that destroyed their radar and defensive systems.
In the interview, Trump also spoke about economic motivations tied to the MOU, particularly the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. He remarked on the positive impact on oil prices and the stock market, emphasizing that a nuclear agreement is part of the deal within a 60-day negotiation period.
The MOU with Iran, agreed upon by Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, calls for an end to the war and outlines the terms for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. This agreement is seen as a significant step in U.S. foreign relations, aiming to stabilize the region and initiate nuclear talks.
Additionally, Trump addressed domestic achievements, claiming a substantial reduction in crime rates in Washington, D.C., alongside city beautification initiatives. He touted these efforts as part of preparations for the United States’ 250th anniversary, aiming to transform the capital into a safer and more appealing place.
