Airbnb’s Unique Offer for World Cup Fans
Fans attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup may have an alternative to the usual competitive FIFA ticketing system. Airbnb recently announced an exclusive offer—free match tickets with select rentals across all 16 host cities.
“Airbnb hosts don’t just offer you a place to stay—they provide a more authentic way to experience a destination,” said Dave Stephenson, Chief Business Officer of Airbnb.
This promotion allows travelers to bundle accommodation and stadium access during the tournament in June and July. Availability is limited, and not every listing qualifies.
Why It Matters
Tickets for the World Cup can be tough to secure and expensive. Airbnb’s offer combines lodging with tickets, potentially allowing travelers access to sold-out or high-demand matches.
While the World Cup is anticipated to increase tourism, previous data showed uneven demand for hotels and short-term rentals in some cities. Free tickets could stimulate bookings in slower markets.
What To Know
Airbnb began offering free World Cup tickets with select bookings starting June 10. The offer applies only to eligible listings and features participating rentals in 16 host cities across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
Federico Zimmerman, an Airbnb host in Dallas, expressed excitement over the initiative.
“I grew up playing soccer—it’s been part of my life since I could walk. Getting to share that love of the game with guests, and actually get them into a World Cup match, is something extraordinary.”
Airbnb plans to distribute more than 1,300 tickets through this program. Listings with tickets are marked by a soccer ball icon, and each guest in the booking receives a ticket upon reservation confirmation.
World Cup Ticket Pricing
Ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup vary significantly. Entry-level tickets start around $60 for group-stage matches, while knockout-stage games range from $100 to over $1,000. Final tickets can exceed $6,000.
FIFA’s dynamic pricing means costs may fluctuate based on demand, teams, and host city. Airbnb’s bundled offer could attract travelers seeking stable prices.
According to Airbnb’s press release, travelers can search for stays in host cities during match dates and identify listings with the soccer ball icon to check ticket inclusion.
Tickets are included for each guest, up to the listing’s occupancy limit. Booking phases align with tournament stages from group rounds to the final. Eligible homes average about $385 per night, though rates differ by city and property.
Booking Challenges
Despite tourism expectations, early data showed uneven World Cup impact on accommodations.
A survey from the American Hotel and Lodging Association found 80% of hotels in host cities reported occupancy below forecasts. In Philadelphia, rooms were available around match dates, not meeting expected bookings.
“Some places are doing very, very well, and some places are seeing marginal benefits,” noted Bram Gallagher, AirDNA’s director of economics and forecasting.
Airbnb’s spokesperson stated the FIFA partnership began a year ago and aims to help fans access the World Cup and follow their teams.
Next Steps
While Airbnb hasn’t linked the ticket promotion to slower bookings directly, the timing suggests incentives might attract last-minute travelers.
Airbnb customers looking for free tickets face limited availability and high competition for eligible listings.
