Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Upcoming UK Visit with Children

7 days ago 0

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are expected to join their parents, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, on a visit to Britain in July. This visit marks the first chance for them to see their grandfather, King Charles III, in four years. Harry’s return to the UK is anticipated as part of events leading to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. According to reports, Harry plans to bring both Meghan and their children, offering an opportunity for a long-awaited meeting with King Charles.

Why It Matters

King Charles last saw his grandchildren in 2022 during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. That visit was Princess Lilibet’s only one, and being just a year old, she likely doesn’t remember it. A new visit provides an opportunity for both children to create lasting memories with their grandfather.

King Charles Eager to See His Grandchildren

Afua Hagan, a UK-based royal commentator, stated that the visit involving both Harry and Meghan, along with their children, is significant. Hagan suggests a meeting with King Charles is possible because he wishes to see his grandchildren. Such an event could mark an important development in mending the relationship between Harry and his father, which has been challenged over the years by public scrutiny and criticism.

Since the release of Harry’s memoir in January 2023, tensions have lessened despite previous criticisms of King Charles. For instance, Harry criticized his father in May 2025, after losing a legal case over police protection. He accused Charles of hindering his requests for security during their UK visits.

The Role of Police Protection

Harry has expressed concerns about his family’s safety in the UK without police protection, which was withdrawn in February 2020 after the couple stepped back from royal duties. Currently, the UK Home Office occasionally provides security, usually linked to official palace invitations.

The potential involvement of the children in the visit suggests a planned meeting with King Charles. It indicates an invitation from the palace, which would ensure the protection Harry has sought. Hagan describes this as a significant gesture, indicating that security measures meeting Harry’s needs have been arranged, likely with an invitation from the King.

“This shows Harry feels secure enough to bring Meghan and his family, which is positive,” Hagan observed. “He wants to introduce his children to his home country and see his family.”

Thawing Relations Between Harry and King Charles

A gradual improvement in relations between Harry and Charles began weeks after Harry’s BBC interview in 2025. That summer, aides for both sides met privately, sparking media speculation about a reconciliation. By September, Harry met Charles at Clarence House, marking their first meeting since February 2024, when Charles disclosed a cancer diagnosis. Harry publicly expressed his desire for reconciliation, acknowledging the need to end disputes.

While relations between Harry and Charles are improving, a meeting with Meghan and the children could further enhance this progress. However, challenges persist, particularly concerning Prince William, who remains more stringent than King Charles regarding the Sussexes’ roles in royal life.
