An incident in Oklahoma involving a teenager has highlighted the dangers of a viral social media trend called the “Benadryl challenge.” This trend has led to several children being hospitalized.
The challenge encourages individuals to consume large amounts of Benadryl and resist sleep to achieve a high. This practice poses significant health risks, including seizures and cardiac arrest.
Fifteen-year-old Leah Presson is currently in critical condition at an intensive care unit in Oklahoma. Local news outlet KFOR reports that tests reveal she has no brain activity. Her father, Richard Presson, expressed hope for her recovery, saying, “I don’t even want to think about a funeral because I feel like there’s still hope and everybody’s like, giving up too soon… I believe in miracles, that she’s definitely a miracle baby.”
He emphasized the importance of educating children about the dangers of such challenges. He remarked, “I just want everybody to be aware of where they can educate their kids. But these challenges are just silly, and they need to be educated so it doesn’t happen again.”
This situation continues to develop, and further information will be provided as it becomes available.
