Shooting in Midland, Texas: Casualties and Response

At least one person has died and multiple others are injured due to an active shooter in downtown Midland, Texas. Midland Mayor Lori Blong addressed the situation in a press conference on Friday, confirming that the suspect is barricaded inside a building.

According to Mayor Blong, there are a total of 11 victims. Law enforcement has set up a perimeter and is advising residents to steer clear of the area. Details about the shooter’s identity remain unconfirmed at this time, though Blong stated the individual is currently ‘contained.’

The FBI is aware of the incident and has dispatched agents from its Midland satellite office to the scene, as reported by a bureau source.

The shooting commenced in southeast Midland and extended into south Midland. Police were initially called to the scene at 8:03 a.m. local time.

Midland Memorial Hospital has received nine of the victims. Four are undergoing surgery, while five are in stable condition. The hospital’s main campus experienced a nearly two-hour lockdown following the event, with the emergency department still under lockdown.
