Anthony received a 35-year prison sentence for the 2025 murder of Austin Metcalf. Following his conviction, Anthony claimed he lacks funds to hire a lawyer.
The funds were raised through a GiveSendGo campaign, intending to cover legal fees and other family expenses. However, the fundraiser was removed after his conviction. The page noted the money would help with expenses such as family relocation due to safety concerns and everyday living costs.

GiveSendGo’s policy states that funds raised for defense must go directly to attorneys and cannot be used for personal support. The fundraiser initially appeared shortly after the murder occurred. It justified diverse expenses like legal costs and the Anthony family’s relocation for safety reasons.
GiveSendGo explained in a statement on X that the purpose of the initial fundraiser was fulfilled, leading to its closure. A disclaimer highlighted that all raised funds should focus on legal defenses and be managed by a licensed attorney.
