He opted not to sit in the celebrity section or near President Trump, who was present in a bulletproof box at Madison Square Garden on Monday. His ticket was for standing room only, situated above the nosebleed seats.
Mr. Mamdani purchased the ticket from a reserved pool of house seats for VIPs and well-connected individuals. This practice is typical at sports and cultural events nationwide. By paying for his own ticket, he ensured compliance with city rules that forbid gifts to elected officials.
