Atlanta Dream Dominates Mystics with Stellar Performance

2 weeks ago 0

On a notable Saturday, the Atlanta Dream delivered an impressive performance, overpowering the Mystics with a 109–77 victory in the Commissioner’s Cup. Rhyne Howard led Atlanta with a stellar showing, scoring 19 points with a 71% success rate from beyond the arc, contributing three assists, and achieving a game-high six steals. Allisha Gray complemented the effort by adding 15 points and five assists, making 12 of 15 free throws.

The standout player of the match was Angel Reese. She equaled her season high by scoring 18 points, while also grabbing 17 rebounds. Reese showed precision from the free-throw line, making all 10 attempts, alongside contributing four steals and a block. This victory places the Dream at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 7–3 record.

Reese’s accomplishment adds to her remarkable record of 50-plus double-doubles in her first 75 career games. This achievement places her among only four basketball players, across both the WNBA and NBA, who have reached this mark. Reese is currently on the brink of tying Blake Griffin for the most double-doubles within that span.

This milestone comes as Reese is set to face the Chicago Sky, the team that traded her. Reese had expressed dissatisfaction with the Sky’s direction in late 2025, hinting she might need to seek new opportunities if the team’s prospects did not improve. As a consequence of her outspoken remarks, the Sky suspended her for half a game, straining their relationship.

On April 6, 2026, the Chicago Sky traded Reese to Atlanta for two first-round picks in 2027 and 2028. Dan Padover, the Dream’s GM, described Reese as “a dynamic talent and a perfect fit for what we are building in Atlanta.” So far, Reese has lived up to expectations.

In her debut with the Dream, Reese achieved the milestone of becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 50 career double-doubles. She accomplished this feat in just 65 games, surpassing the previous record held by Tina Charles, who took 75 games. Reese is now closing in on Blake Griffin’s record for the first 75 games.
