Bert Kreischer’s Health Scare: A Turn to Sobriety and Reflection

3 weeks ago 0

Comedian Bert Kreischer shared how a serious health issue might have saved his life. Earlier this year, the 53-year-old found himself in the emergency room with severe leg pain. Doctors discovered a substantial blood clot behind his knee, along with additional clots in his lungs. This led to a regimen of blood thinners and a halt to drinking alcohol during his recovery.

In March 2026, while traveling between North Dakota and Iowa, Kreischer’s tour bus experienced a tire blowout on Interstate 94. The group moved to other buses, and the first bus, later on, caught fire and was completely destroyed.

“Man, you’re lucky you got that blood clot,” said the bus driver to Kreischer, reflecting on how the health scare inadvertently changed his fate.

Kreischer mentioned that the incident gave him a new appreciation for life’s uncertainties and luck. He compared his experience to Seth MacFarlane missing a flight on the tragic day of September 11, noting the unpredictable nature of fate.

In his conversation with Fox News Digital, Kreischer revealed this marked a significant turning point in his health journey. Known for his lifestyle of partying, he began to focus on losing weight and improving health.

After consulting with his doctor, Kreischer was encouraged to embark on a weight loss plan due to a body fat percentage of 40%. He began taking a medication called tirzepatide to manage weight loss effectively, aiming to lose 95 pounds.

Kreischer shared how the blood clot situation made him confront his mortality. This realization spurred him to appreciate life’s fragility.

Discussing sobriety, Kreischer explained his transition from his iconic beer-drinking persona. Forced to be sober due to blood thinners, he began processing emotions without the assistance of alcohol.

Kreischer also touched on his evolving life since his early days in Los Angeles, expressing gratitude for his current success and acknowledging the changes he’d undergone.

The interview coincided with his attendance at a For Your Consideration event for his Netflix series “Free Bert,” highlighting the show’s renewal for a second season.

Exciting developments in his professional life involve expanding on what audiences loved in the first season, providing more of the characters and elements that resonated with viewers.
