3 weeks ago 0

NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, aged 41, tragically passed away following severe pneumonia that evolved into sepsis, as confirmed by his family. Dr. Cedric Rutland, a pulmonary critical care physician and American Lung Association spokesperson, discussed how the inflammation and infection linked to pneumonia can severely impact the body.

His son, Brexton Busch, returned to the racetrack on Tuesday for the first time since his father’s death almost two weeks earlier. Brexton practiced at Charlotte Motor Speedway in preparation for the CookOut Summer Shootout, part of the Legend Car Series races.

Kyle Busch died unexpectedly at the end of last month after his pneumonia battle led to sepsis complications. An intimate memorial service for Busch was held on Tuesday afternoon, with a public memorial planned for later this year.

“On behalf of the Busch family, everyone at Richard Childress Racing, and all of NASCAR, we are devastated to announce the sudden and tragic passing of Kyle Busch,” the family said in a statement.

Busch was a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion who garnered immense respect for his skill and passion. Since joining the Cup Series in 2004, he made 762 career starts and achieved 63 victories. He won championships in 2015 and 2019, garnering 234 triumphs across NASCAR’s three national series.

Busch established records with 102 wins in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and 69 wins in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. His final NASCAR victory came at Dover, where he led 147 laps and triumphed in a Truck Series race.

Following Busch’s death, Richard Childress, owner of RCR, announced the suspension of car No. 8 until Brexton becomes eligible to use it. The team chose to run car No. 33 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and beyond. The No. 8 car, a creation of Kyle, became symbolic within NASCAR and holds significant meaning for his fans.

Brexton, at age 11, shows promise in his racing career. In recent seasons, Kyle devoted much of his time to supporting Brexton’s racing activities during the week.

Kyle Busch’s wife, Samantha, is highly active on social media, sharing aspects of life with Kyle and Brexton’s racing endeavors. Earlier in the year, Brexton participated in a race against his father at the Tulsa Shootout.

The NASCAR Cup Series has an age limit of 18 for competitors, but Brexton can race in the Truck Series once he turns 16.
