Demi Vollering Clinches Second Women’s Tour de France Victory

Dutch cyclist Demi Vollering celebrated a triumphant return to the Women’s Tour de France, clinching her second victory with a commanding win in the ninth and final stage. This achievement concluded her overall triumph in a dominating fashion in Nice, France, as she crossed the finish line prominently ahead of her competitor, Polish rider Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney, the 2024 champion.

Vollering, known for her tenacity, lifted her bike in the air after finishing the stage, a testament to her confidence and celebration. She entered the final stage with an advantage of eight seconds over Niewiadoma-Phinney, solidifying her lead with a time bonus obtained from the stage victory. Elisa Longo Borghini from Italy, a past Giro d’Italia champion, finished third overall, trailing 4:29 behind Vollering. Marlen Reusser experienced a setback after a crash during a descent on the second of four climbs, impacting her position.

Niewiadoma-Phinney faced challenging conditions on the last climb. Despite her efforts to pressure Vollering, she could not maintain pace. Vollering strategically launched an attack 800 meters from the peak, replicating her success from the previous Saturday’s eighth stage, where she took the overall lead.

Two years prior, Vollering narrowly missed victory in the Tour by finishing four seconds behind Niewiadoma-Phinney in the final stage. This year, she achieved redemption with robust performance and determination.
