3 weeks ago 0

A memorable speech can change the course of a game. Treylan Webster delivered such words for Brother Rice during a crucial moment. As Brother Rice faced a challenging situation in the sectional semifinal, Webster’s encouragement was pivotal.

“It’s always good to have someone talking to you,” Webster remarked. He reminded his teammates, “You’ve worked all your life for this. It’s not time to panic.” His words inspired action.

Webster’s actions followed suit. With two outs, he hit a game-tying RBI infield single. This fueled a comeback, leading to a 7-6 win over Reavis after trailing by four runs.

Brady Cunningham, headed to Texas A&M, sparked the rally with a three-run homer in the seventh inning. Colin Campbell, bound for Louisville, eventually scored the winning run on a wild pitch. Aidan Dillon secured the win by pitching three hitless innings.

“We had faith that it was going to happen,” Cunningham stated. “Everyone was staying together, rooting for each other.”

Brother Rice will play Mount Carmel next in the sectional championship. For Reavis, Jonathan Liesen made remarkable contributions with a homer and three runs. Despite impressive play from Robert Soto Jr., who struck out six over nearly seven innings, Reavis came up short.

The game reached a critical point when Webster stepped to the plate with Brother Rice down 6-5. After hitting a challenging high chopper, he reached base safely, tying the game.

“There were nerves, but good nerves,” Webster shared. “I came through for my team.” His teammates admire the role he plays.

“Trey’s been our guy all year,” said Cunningham. “He supports everyone, and we’d be nowhere without him.”

Coach Sean McBride noticed Webster’s growth. “He was quiet in seventh grade. Now he’s inspiring everyone,” McBride said. Webster’s leadership is recognized and rewarded.

Baseball has been a constant for Webster, who began playing at age five. Wrestling taught him resilience, which he applied during the game. “You’re going to get punched in the mouth,” he said. “You never quit. You come back, stay tough, show resilience.”

Webster ensured that his team embodied this resilience, resulting in a memorable victory. “I’ll remember this my whole life,” Webster concluded.
