A 14-year-old boy is in critical condition following a shooting on Friday afternoon in the West Ridge area, according to police sources and internal reports.
The incident took place around 3 p.m. on the 6300 block of North Rockwell Street, based on an initial notification from the Chicago police. A police source indicated that shots were fired from a blue Honda Accord, which then fled the scene.
The boy sustained a neck injury and was transported to Lurie Children’s Hospital, where he remains in critical condition according to the initial notification. Authorities have not confirmed if the boy was the intended target of the shooting.
Though his parents were not harmed, officers from the Rogers Park (24th) District accompanied them to the hospital, as reported by a police source. Belmont Area detectives are currently leading the investigation.
