Yasmine Mohammed, a former Muslim who survived a forced marriage to an al-Qaeda terrorist, uses her experiences to raise awareness about Islamic radicalism. In a discussion with Fox News Digital, she recounted, “I had to accept being beaten and raped by him because my mom provided religious justifications. She would explain that I had no right to complain since I was considered his property.”
Feeling trapped, Mohammed became pregnant and feared for her daughter’s future. Her husband discussed taking their daughter to Egypt for female genital mutilation (FGM). This prompted Mohammed to escape, seeking safety for herself and her child.
Despite growing up in a secular Muslim family in Canada, Mohammed’s life drastically changed when her mother embraced radical views, leading to Mohammed’s forced marriage to Essam Marzouk, an Egyptian terrorist. Mohammed believes her ex-husband’s inability to adapt to classism in Egypt was a factor in his radicalization.
Mohammed is now the co-director of the Clarity Coalition and author of “Unveiled.” She highlights the influence of foreign funding from Qatar at U.S. Ivy League universities as a source of spreading extremist ideologies.
