Washington Commanders Choose Stefon Diggs Over Brandon Aiyuk

The Washington Commanders have decided to enhance their wide receiver lineup by selecting Stefon Diggs. They considered two experienced players, Diggs and Brandon Aiyuk, for adding depth to their offense.

Diggs, known for his impressive performance across three different teams and two 1,000-yard seasons, seemed to be a prime candidate. Aiyuk, despite signing a lucrative contract with the San Francisco 49ers in 2024, faced an injury in 2025 and has since exhibited concerning behavior. His conduct has raised issues among team officials.

Now with the Commanders, Diggs is set to agree to a one-year contract that surpasses the minimum salary as reported by the NFL Network. He joins a team featuring veteran receivers like Terry McLaurin, Treylon Burks, Luke McCaffery, and Dyami Brown. Meanwhile, rookie Antonio Williams is expected to develop.

This opportunity benefits Diggs, a native of the DMV area, who returns after a fully healthy offseason. He’ll be playing alongside quarterback Jayden Daniels.

However, this decision signals a setback for Aiyuk. His recent behavior, such as posting videos at high speeds and mocking the 49ers, made teams hesitant to include him. Specific antics include filming himself speeding and ridiculing coach Kyle Shanahan’s accident, which led to physical injuries.

Aiyuk expressed a desire to join the Commanders, largely due to his past chemistry with Daniels, his college teammate. The Commanders showed interest earlier, but this has diminished over time. Aiyuk will need to reconsider his actions as the Commanders move on with Diggs.
