USS Theodore Roosevelt Deployed to Middle East

The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt is set to deploy to the Middle East in the coming weeks. This mission will relieve another aircraft carrier as the U.S. continues to enforce a naval blockade in the Arabian Sea.

The ship’s deployment involves a departure from San Diego to join other warships in the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) theater. This deployment is expected to last over seven months, replacing the USS George Washington, according to USNI News.

A U.S. Pacific Fleet spokesperson stated that the Navy does not discuss future operations for security reasons. Addressing the media, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Daryl Caudle acknowledged ongoing conflict-related stress on forces and emphasized the need for improved deployment planning.

The USS George Washington, a Nimitz-class carrier, recently arrived in the Middle East, taking over from the USS Abraham Lincoln. This transition comes amid reports of challenging onboard conditions and mental health issues. The Abraham Lincoln is now heading to Thailand for a port call.

Since the beginning of the U.S. conflict with Iran, the U.S. military has maintained at least one aircraft carrier in the Centcom region. Over 20 U.S. warships enforce the blockade in the Arabian Sea, redirecting 75 commercial vessels, disabling three, and boarding two to ensure compliance.
