U.S. Responds to Settler Siege in West Bank

U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee has denounced the settlers’ actions as a “horrific act of terror” amid an ongoing siege of an American Palestinian family’s home. Since Sunday, the family has faced harassment, with settlers preventing their access to essential supplies despite military intervention attempts.

Lou Ridi, speaking from Ohio, confirmed that his brother and nephew have been trapped in the house without food or water for several days. Recently, they were evacuated by Israel’s military, yet uncertainties surrounding the property remain.

Efforts to restore order have seen Israeli troops dismantle illegal outposts and increase patrols. Journalists report restricted access to the village, while the response of Israeli police to these events is unclear. Criticism is mounting against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for allegedly ignoring settler violence as tensions have risen in recent years.

Ambassador Huckabee’s remarks on social media mark a significant critique from a U.S. official, who is known for his support of Israel’s settlement policies. Nonetheless, he supports the Israeli military’s measures to manage the situation.

Footage shows settlers continuing to linger near the disturbed family home, having caused property damage, including severed utilities and assaulting neighboring homes. Harassment has been reported for months before recent intensifications.

Last month’s arson of a mosque in Qusra marked another violent episode. Incidents of violence have resulted in the deaths of both Israelis and Palestinians, fueling conflict in the region.

Settlers’ expansion of outposts, criticized internationally, raises concerns about efforts to undermine the possibility of a Palestinian state in the West Bank. While Palestinians aim for a future state in the area, some settlers claim historical, religious, and security rights to the land.
