U.S. Government Halts Green Card Applications for Tech Giants

17 minutes ago 0

The Trump administration recently halted green card applications for tech companies such as Microsoft and Adobe. This decision, announced by Vice President JD Vance, aims to protect jobs for American workers by suspending these companies from applying for green cards for their H-1B visa holders.

Officials criticized the use of green card pathways to employ foreign workers at lower wages, claiming it undermines opportunities for American employees. Vice President Vance singled out Microsoft, accusing the tech giant of misuse after laying off numerous workers while continuing to seek H-1B visas and green cards.

We want people to invest in the United States of America, particularly the American technology sector. We are the biggest boosters of your industry. We want you to continue to grow and to employ a lot of people, but we want you to employ American workers, Vance stated.

In addition to Microsoft, several other tech companies faced suspension from the PERM program. U.S. Secretary of Labor Kieth Sonderling announced that IT firms like Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCO, and Capgemini would be affected. The suspensions for Adobe and Microsoft were linked to ongoing federal investigations, leading to the cessation of current green card processing and the rejection of new applications.

Newsweek attempted to contact the affected companies for reactions.
