The U.S. Army revealed a new warfare system designed to disrupt navigation signals used by enemy precision weapons. This system, called “Hammer of the Gods,” aims to make it harder for adversaries to strike targets accurately from long distances while avoiding detection.
This electronic system was tested for the first time at sea off the West Coast of the U.S. in mid-July, as a part of the Project Convergence Capstone 6 (PC-C6) experiment. While similar land-based versions have been demonstrated over the last two years, this exercise marked the official debut of the maritime variant.
The portable signal disruptor can reportedly neutralize several precision-guided weapons, including long-range artillery, guided missiles, and cruise missiles. The system focuses on jamming positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) signals, such as GPS data, which are critical for weapon navigation.
The absence of reliable PNT data leads to a significant drop in weapon accuracy, increasing the chances of delayed missions and missed targets.
The system also establishes a resilient communications network, ensuring that friendly forces stay connected even amidst heavy electronic jamming. It links military devices, allowing troops to continue operations in challenging environments.
Army officials noted that the experiment proved the counter-PNT system could be effectively launched, operated, and retrieved in real maritime conditions. The testing involved collaboration among the U.S. Army, Navy, Space Force, U.S. Space Forces Pacific, Naval Base San Diego, and the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command. This initiative integrated space, cyber, and conventional capabilities during the exercise.
