The latest Economist/YouGov poll reveals a decline in President Donald Trump’s approval among millennials. Only 26% of adults aged 30 to 44 years now approve of Trump’s performance as President. This marks a decrease from the 29% approval last week. It also indicates a five-week streak of steady or declining support within this age group. Overall, Trump’s approval sits at 35%, with 61% disapproving of his performance. The poll surveyed 1,611 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of 3.4%.
White House Spokeswoman Olivia Wales responded to Newsweek, stating that President Trump has implemented significant tax cuts for the middle class, reduced prescription drugs’ costs, sealed the border, and reduced violent crime to its lowest levels in nearly a century. Other achievements include an energy sector boost and notable highs in Americans’ 401(k) accounts. An official highlighted a historic drop of over 9% in violent crime for 2025 and 15 months without migrant releases at the border. Additionally, there was a 3.1% year-over-year reduction in prescription drug prices in July, the largest annual drop in over 60 years.
Why Millennial Votes Matter
Millennials, those born between 1981 and 1996, have surpassed baby boomers as the largest age demographic, according to the Pew Research Center. Both Trump and former Vice President Kamala Harris have focused their campaigns on engaging millennials through podcasts and digital media, highlighting their importance in the campaign cycle.
Poll Insights
The Economist/YouGov poll shows that younger Americans have negative views on multiple aspects of Trump’s presidency. For those aged 18 to 29, 30% approve of Trump’s job performance, while 67% disapprove. Among 30-to-44-year-olds, 26% approve, and 70% disapprove. Trump’s handling of foreign policy has the backing of only 24% of the younger group, while 25% support his tariffs policy. Millennials show approval ratings of 21% for foreign policy and 19% for tariffs. This data is consistent with earlier readings from June, which recorded similar figures.
Trump’s overall approval sits low as he approaches the 2026 midterm elections. Earlier reports by YouGov recorded a 33% approval rate with the highest recorded disapproval at 62%. The current 35% approval figure reflects a slight improvement, yet the millennial’s disapproval remains significant.
