President Donald Trump is urging Muslim-majority countries to join the Abraham Accords if they wish to be involved in a developing agreement with Iran. The Abraham Accords aim to normalize diplomatic relations between Israel and various Arab and Muslim-majority nations.
Pressure to Normalize Relations
Trump stated that he had urged nations such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey, and Jordan to establish diplomatic ties with Israel. He shared on Truth Social, “After all the work done by the United States to try and pull this very complex puzzle together, it should be mandatory that all of these Countries, at a minimum, simultaneously, sign onto the Abraham Accords.”
Expanding the Accords
The Abraham Accords were first signed by the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain in 2020. Trump mentioned plans to discuss further with leaders from these nations. Additionally, he suggested that Iran might eventually become part of the Accords.
“In speaking to numerous of the Great Leaders mentioned above, they would be honored, as soon as our Document is signed, to have the Islamic Republic of Iran as part of the Abraham Accords,”he posted on Truth Social.
U.S. and Israeli Stance
Officials from the United States and Israel reportedly do not anticipate any movement on the UAE’s part concerning the issue until after Israel’s elections scheduled in September.
