President Trump will deliver a keynote speech on Wednesday at the Republican National Committee Midterm Convention in Dallas. This convention, an unusual mid-cycle event, aims to energize party members before the upcoming November elections.
Vice President JD Vance, viewed as a possible successor to Trump, will headline the second night. Several potential 2028 presidential candidates are also scheduled to speak.
The list of invited speakers includes prominent figures such as former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, now a political adviser to the president, Donald Trump Jr., Attorney General Todd Blanche, and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Noticeably absent are Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Despite Trump’s high regard for Rubio as a future presidential nominee or potential running mate, recent reports suggest Hegseth is not currently considering a White House bid.
Among Capitol Hill leaders, House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming are expected to participate. However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, who has had public disagreements with Trump, will not speak but is anticipated to attend fundraisers. Senator Ted Cruz, believing that Vance will face competition in the 2028 race, is invited to speak alongside Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Paxton, trailing his Democratic opponent James Talarico in polls and fundraising, recently received a $10 million contribution from Trump’s MAGA Inc. super PAC.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who is narrowly leading his opponent Gina Hinojosa, is also on the list of speakers.
