Trump Issues Pardons for 11 Individuals

President Donald Trump pardoned 11 individuals on Friday, an action that included a former business associate of lobbyist Jack Abramoff and nine people charged with bypassing emissions control systems on vehicles. This decision is part of a wider trend of pardons issued by Trump in his second term, especially for allies and figures seen as politically aligned.

Trump highlighted his use of the presidential power to grant pardons broadly. Earlier on Friday, he announced some of these pardons through social media but did not specify the names immediately. He wrote on his Truth Social media network: It is my Great Honor to have just signed Pardons for six people who were persecuted by the Biden Administration, and were in, or being sent to, prison, for ‘fixing their car.’

The White House released a list indicating that among those pardoned were nine individuals accused of violating the Clean Air Act. These charges related to disabling emissions monitoring systems on vehicles or selling devices enabling such bypasses.

The pardons followed Trump’s Monday memo to the Environmental Protection Agency, permitting Americans to repair vehicles as they choose. Trump referenced a diesel mechanic pardoned previously who had disabled emissions monitoring systems. His memo also addressed aftermarket auto parts and aimed to limit the California Air Resources Board’s authority to assess parts that impact emissions.

Additionally, Trump pardoned Adam Kidan, a former associate of Jack Abramoff. Kidan had pleaded guilty to fraud and conspiracy related to buying gambling boats, receiving a nearly six-year prison sentence in 2006. He was involved in a broader investigation into a lobbying scandal from the early 2000s involving Abramoff, Capitol Hill, and officials from President George W. Bush’s administration.

After his release from prison in 2009, Kidan worked at a staffing agency, founded Chartwell Staffing Solutions, and currently serves as president of Empire Workforce Solutions. In March, a report noted Kidan’s role in hosting a fundraiser at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago for a Republican congressional candidate from Long Island. A request for a comment from Kidan’s business was not returned on Friday evening.

Trump also pardoned Jack Harvard, a ranch owner praised for his post-conviction behavior. Harvard had allowed U.S. military and NATO troops to train on his land without charge. The White House did not provide further details on Harvard’s conviction.
