President Donald Trump spoke to American astronauts aboard the International Space Station from Houston. Earlier, he honored the Artemis II crew at NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
Trump began the call with a light-hearted comment about space travel, saying, “I wouldn’t do it. I hate to admit it. I would not want to do it. But some people love it more than anything.”
During the call, the astronauts expressed excitement to speak with Trump, noting they were “in the middle of several spacewalks,” with another one planned soon. Trump praised the astronauts as “pioneers” in space exploration. He also invited other officials to join the conversation and extended a future invitation to the White House.
A short time earlier, Trump honored the Artemis II crew—Christina Koch, Victor Glover, Reid Wiseman, and Jeremy Hansen—by presenting them with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor. He also signed an executive order to establish the U.S. Space Force Academy, comparing it to the nation’s other military academies like West Point and Annapolis.
