Trump and Infantino Praise 2026 World Cup Success

With the World Cup final just days away, President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed their admiration for this year’s tournament’s success. The United States hosted the event, featuring matches in 11 of the 16 venues, including all quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final.

Infantino remarked, “I promised a great World Cup, and it has surpassed all expectations.” He noted that 7 million fans attended the games, and billions watched worldwide.

Trump and Infantino spoke at a FIFA reception at Trump Tower on July 17, 2026. Infantino praised the U.S. for welcoming fans globally, creating an event enjoyed by both attendees and viewers at home. “Everyone that came here enjoyed it, everyone that stayed home enjoyed it as well,” Infantino said, highlighting the unity and happiness provided by the tournament.

Infantino credited Trump, stating the tournament’s success wouldn’t have been possible without him. According to Infantino, this World Cup is not only the greatest in history but also the largest human, social, and cultural event ever observed.

Trump shared this sentiment, calling the event “the most successful sporting event maybe in the history of the world.” He emphasized the honor Americans felt sharing their country with the world and expressed pride in the unity and progress demonstrated by the event.

Both Trump and Infantino will attend the final at MetLife Stadium, where they will award the trophy to the winning team between Spain and Argentina. Argentina aims to be the first team to win consecutive World Cups since Brazil’s victories in 1958 and 1962, while Spain competes in its second final after winning in 2010.
