Trump Administration Tackles Birth Tourism with New Task Force

Natasha Kaiser, President Trump, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio gathered at the State Department in Washington, D.C., on August 7, 2026, for discussions on American mining. A significant announcement was made establishing a task force to address ‘birth tourism.’ This refers to the practice of traveling to the U.S. to give birth and obtain citizenship for the newborn.

The State Department emphasized that the campaign aligns with President Trump’s stance that U.S. citizenship should not be manipulated through immigration laws. The task force was developed in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to protect immigration integrity.

This initiative follows Trump’s two executive orders signed on August 6, aiming to curb birthright citizenship. The task force’s primary job is to scrutinize visa holders globally, identify cases of birth tourism, revoke visas when necessary, and dismantle the supporting networks.

Efforts include data analysis and collaboration between the State Department, DHS, and other federal agencies to pinpoint those planning to give birth in the U.S. The State Department reported revoking over 600 visas linked to the practice.

The task force operates under Trump’s second executive order, “Ending Birth Tourism,” which delegates authority to the Secretaries of State and Homeland Security to eradicate the practice. Birth tourism is defined as foreigners entering the U.S. with nonimmigrant visas to give birth.

Another order titled “Continuing To Protect The Meaning And Value Of American Citizenship” describes several child categories as ineligible for birthright citizenship. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which won a related Supreme Court case, opposes these orders. The ACLU seeks clarification from a federal judge in New Hampshire to safeguard affected babies’ citizenship.
