In Plymouth, Massachusetts, the trial of Lindsay Clancy has drawn significant attention due to its focus on her mental state. In January 2023, an incident occurred where Clancy, suffering from postpartum psychosis according to her defense, strangled her three children.
Police officers responding to the scene initially found Clancy after she had jumped from a second-story window. Her then-husband, Patrick Clancy, alerted them to the children in the basement, leading them to discover the tragic scene.
The trial centers on whether Clancy, a former nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, is criminally responsible for the deaths. Her defense claims she was in the throes of a rare mental illness caused by postpartum factors. Prosecutors, however, argue that Clancy acted with intent.
