TikTok influencer Sara Gilson, also known as Sara Duffey, had recently accused her husband of being a pedophile. The estranged couple was found shot to death in Gilson’s Oklahoma home. Authorities suspect a murder-suicide.
Gilson made the accusation against her husband, 48-year-old Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, in a TikTok video on July 11. The post was titled, “Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out is a pedophile.” The video remained on her account as of Saturday.
On July 24, police responded to a domestic call at the home of 41-year-old Gilson. Officers discovered Gilson and Duffey deceased from gunshot wounds. A local news outlet, KTUL, indicated that a family member identified the bodies, suggesting Shawn broke into the home, killed Sara, and then himself.
A separate report from KRMG confirmed their identities, though police did not publicly declare it a murder-suicide. Law enforcement ensured that there was no ongoing threat to the community.
Authorities received the 911 call from a juvenile in the residence. Gilson had filed a protective order against Duffey on June 10, requiring him to maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from her.
Another protective order was filed against Duffey on the same day. A different woman reported seeing him inappropriately interacting with her 15-year-old daughter, whom Duffey coached on a youth basketball team. According to The Oklahoman, he had been observed “kissing and fondling” the teenager.
Duffey allegedly sent inappropriate messages and offered the girl money to remain silent. A police report was filed with the Owasso Police Department regarding these incidents.
Sara Gilson’s TikTok video used a popular trend format to reveal her accusations against Duffey. She had previously obtained two protective orders against him but failed to attend the hearings, resulting in dismissals.
