CBS football analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo faced arrest on Thursday night in Milwaukee. Authorities suspect him of driving under the influence.
Officials indicated Romo, aged 46, was stopped on southbound Interstate 43 at approximately 6:18 p.m. CDT. This occurred after he allegedly failed standardized field sobriety tests, as noted in Milwaukee County Sheriff’s records.
The former quarterback was booked for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He has since been released. Romo is scheduled to appear in court on September 21, coinciding with the Monday night of the NFL’s Week 2. During that weekend, CBS plans to cover the Pittsburgh Steelers’ visit to the New England Patriots, the AFC champions.
The traffic stop took place mere hours after Romo completed an interview with NBC affiliate WTMJ, as reported by Milwaukee’s local TV station.
Romo’s NFL career spanned over parts of 13 seasons, all with the Dallas Cowboys. He smoothly transitioned into a broadcasting role with CBS thereafter.
Currently, he is part of CBS’s leading NFL broadcast team, joining play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson. Romo notably called his third Super Bowl in 2024.
As of Friday, it remains unclear if Romo has retained a defense attorney to represent him.
