Todd Stein Returns to North Shore with Juniper, Offering a Unique Dining Experience

Celebrated Chicago chef Todd Stein has embarked on a new venture with the opening of Juniper in Highwood on August 25, 2026. Located at 200 Green Bay Road, this restaurant offers a blend of American classics with expertly crafted sushi, inspired by local and global influences.

Juniper serves as both a supper club and a neighborhood hub, providing a refined dining experience. Diners can enjoy craft cocktails, an extensive wine list, and a selection of sake. Signature dishes like Tuna Tartar with Crushed Avocado and Taro Chips exemplify the fusion of flavors.

We want to create the opportunity for diners to have something they want to eat, serving varied tastes with a varied menu that encourages tasting and shared plates, Stein says.

The restaurant’s design, featuring deep blue hues and wood-grained accents, evokes Stein’s childhood memories from Highland Park. A hand-painted mural of Lake Michigan’s sunrise adds to this nostalgic atmosphere.

Juniper offers numerous dining settings, including a chic main dining room, a secluded sushi bar, and a private dining space, along with outdoor seating for warm-weather dining. Stein, with over 30 years of experience, has led notable Chicago kitchens like The Bristol and mk the restaurant.

The menu features elevated American classics such as Filet Mignon Sliders and Ribeye Steak Frites, characterized by nostalgic flavors and modern techniques. The sushi program, led by Executive Chef Akira Yang, presents classic and specialty rolls, as well as sashimi and nigiri.

Stein emphasizes creating a welcoming atmosphere where guests feel at home, whether dropping in for cocktails or celebrating special occasions.

Juniper represents a shared vision between Stein and General Manager TJ Bachmeyer, aiming for a hospitality experience that makes guests feel like they belong. As Bachmeyer states, When it’s right, it’s just easy, feels like nothing is in your way, and everything seems to just lock into place.
