The Rise of AI in Everyday Interactions: Are We Prepared?

Good morning. An increasing number of individuals are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to manage tasks on their behalf. The question is, are we ready for a world primarily dominated by machine interactions?

Job seekers and employers now commonly use AI in the hiring process. Applicants rely on chatbots to create résumés and cover letters. Employers use AI to filter through these applications. Both sides claim to need these tools to keep up. However, the process can feel hollow and impersonal. Does this help people connect better?

This scenario plays out in various settings. A high school student asks AI for essay help, and a teacher uses AI to grade it. A potential romantic conversation might start with a chatbot-generated line and a response from another chatbot. An individual might argue with a company’s AI-driven customer service through their AI assistant.

“We’ve officially reached the point where customer support is just two LLMs locked in a recursive loop of ‘I understand your concern,’ while the actual humans on both ends just watch the credits roll,” one Reddit user commented.

In recent years, many of us have gotten used to engaging with chatbots. With more tasks being completed by AI, these interactions collide in what I call “bot loops” — cycles where both sides of a conversation are managed by AI.

Prospects of AI-to-AI Interactions

Some anticipate that AI interactions could simplify our daily routines. Imagine an AI persona calling the Department of Motor Vehicles for you, or another AI agent answering. This would eliminate the need for personal visits, making everyday tasks more efficient.

Whitney Wolfe Herd, CEO of the dating app Bumble, foresees AI personas going on dates and reporting back. While one colleague’s attempt wasn’t successful, this idea portrays a futuristic outlook on AI capabilities in social settings.
