Thanksgiving Eve Triple-Header Highlights NBA Regular Season

The NBA has scheduled a highly anticipated Thanksgiving Eve triple-header for the upcoming regular season. Among the headlining acts is LeBron James and his new team, the Philadelphia 76ers.

On Wednesday, the league announced that the 76ers will compete against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Miami Heat on Wednesday, November 25, at 5 p.m. ET. This matchup is part of the annual Emirates NBA Cup.

The ESPN triple-header features two additional exciting games. Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves will play Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder at 7:30 p.m. ET. Later, Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs face off against Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers at 10 p.m. ET.

LeBron James, who previously played for the Miami Heat and won two championships with them, rejected their offseason offer and chose to join the 76ers. His decision was motivated by the opportunity to pursue a title in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia’s roster also includes Jaylen Brown, a recent acquisition from the Boston Celtics. The team already had talented players like former NBA MVP Joel Embiid, two-time All-Star Tyrese Maxey, and promising young star VJ Edgecombe.

Miami added former champion and NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo to their team. He joins forces with Bam Adebayo, who had an impressive season, scoring 83 points in a game, trailing only Wilt Chamberlain in NBA history.

The Thanksgiving Eve game is part of the NBA Cup tournament, which decides a mid-season champion. Group play begins on October 30, followed by knockout rounds in November. The NBA Cup final will take place on December 11 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Both the Heat and 76ers are strong contenders in the Eastern Conference. The 76ers share third place with the New York Knicks in odds to win the NBA championship, behind the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder.
