During an Oval Office meeting, President Donald Trump told a CNN reporter to be quiet, labeling her as ‘disrespectful.’ This occurred when Kristen Holmes attempted to ask a follow-up question regarding South Korea.
On Monday, CNN responded to the White House after Trump’s rapid response team targeted Holmes, the CNN White House correspondent. The confrontation began when Holmes asked Trump about comments made by Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia, who had suggested that Trump preferred building a ballroom and traveling with White House aide Natalie Harp over fulfilling presidential duties. Trump dismissed the accusation, comparing Ossoff to ‘Pee-wee Herman.’
The Rapid Response 47 account on X criticized Holmes for her question concerning Ossoff’s remarks. The account accused Holmes of exploiting an Oval Office event, where Trump hosted lifeguard Ryder Williams and Nathaniel Rai, whom Williams recently saved off the Santa Cruz coast.
Kristen Holmes is accused of asking a ‘disgraceful’ question, characterized as a ‘cheap shot’ about one of Trump’s staffers.
The White House further criticized Holmes on social media, saying her actions were ‘troubling.’ They asked future generations to consider her ‘disgusting and inhumane’ questions.
CNN backed their reporter firmly. They issued a statement asserting that Holmes is a highly respected journalist. They highlighted her commitment to asking pertinent and challenging questions, supporting her actions during the Oval Office event.
In a separate instance, Trump admonished Holmes as she attempted another question, repeatedly instructing her to remain quiet. This exchange took place during Trump’s meeting with 16-year-old lifeguard Ryder Williams and 10-year-old Nathaniel Rai. Trump questioned Holmes’ affiliation, and upon her identifying CNN, he repeatedly labeled her as fake news.
